Development Speed

Bootstrap wins for rapid prototyping. You can build a good-looking interface in minutes by composing pre-built components. For internal tools, admin panels, and MVPs where custom design isn't a priority, Bootstrap gets you further faster.

Tailwind wins for production apps with custom designs. Once you internalize the utility class system, you can build custom interfaces faster than writing custom CSS. The utility classes eliminate context-switching between HTML and CSS files.

Bundle Size

  • Bootstrap full: ~12KB compressed JavaScript + ~27KB CSS (compressed)

Tailwind: Steeper initial learning curve. The utility class names feel foreign at first. However, the class naming is systematic — once you learn the pattern ({property}-{value}), you can predict most class names.

Choose Bootstrap when:
