Are you currently working on multiple projects at a time?

Fernando Garcia on March 05, 2020

Whether you are a 9to5er or a full-time freelancer, you probably have a few projects going on at the same time.

I'm currently a full-time frontend developer with a business on the side, while also creating small side-projects on weekends.

Curious to know how it is going for you :)

I have released multiple side projects but they all have improvements that I'd love to make - so in that sense I have multiple side projects going.

I have ideas for two more, but I'm trying to build one before I build the other! Otherwise I think I'd never finish them. There's so much I want to do, but not enough time (also my habit of procrastination doesn't help).

Hi Emma! What would you work on if time or procrastination were not a problem?

I like making Trello Power-ups, so I'd probably make a couple more of those.

Nice, since you have already made a couple, what is it that youโ€™d like to improve about your time management or habits?

Hmm, I mean that's a very open-ended question so it's hard to answer. I think for me it's hard to juggle priorities more than anything. Like I was going to rewrite one of my existing ones in Preact but then I realised that's probably not worth the effort and there's better things I could be doing.

So for my 9to5er job, my team manages a deployment system that handles a good chunk of our infrastructure. There's 3 or 4 different components to it that are all separate "projects" in the sense that the do different things and are written in different languages, but they all fall under the hood of the same deployment system. So my usually day is jumping between Go, Groovy, and Python between those different projects.

When I have my own free time, I usually have a side project that does not get much love, but I've been spending more and more time trying to contribute back to the NetBox project.

Nice! How long have you been contributing to the NetBox project?

Just a couple weeks at this point so far, I hope to be a long term commiter though because I love it

Amazing, I think if you keep up you could eventually end up being part of the core team.

At work I now work on one release (rather than project, so x iterations) dedicated to one client at a time. Then Iโ€™ve a side project I sometimes work on as well. Any more I think Iโ€™d head for a burnout!

Thanks for replying! How long have you been working on your side-project?
