These sites often use deceptive terms of service, fake online stores, and dubious investment platforms to trick victims into voluntary payments or hidden subscriptions. Kaspersky has introduced a new "undefined trust level" web filtering category that automatically analyzes domain age, IP reputation, and security headers to protect users from these gray-area threats.
Global data reveals that fake browser extensions masquerading as security products are the most prevalent threat, appearing in nearly every region analyzed. However, specific regional trends exist: Africa faces a high volume of fraudulent trading platforms, Latin America is targeted by fake betting services, and the Middle East deals with fake VoIP systems and privacy tools. Protection requires a combination of technical checks, such as verifying SSL certificates and domain registration history, and utilizing real-time security software.
