Hello! My first programming language was Ruby. Think it really was the best starting programming language for me because it is:
I have high hopes for my next language, but it'll be fun to play around with either WebAssembly (I think it's a language?) or Rust.
Hi Andy, welcome on DEV ;)
Gee thanks 😅
Hello! Andy
Hi, Andy it looks awsome! I am interesting.
Hello!
I just became certified as a full stack developer @ Free Code Camp. My first language was HTML, of course, but I'm currently working on learning JavaScript in depth and seeking my first dev job on the Front End. On that note, what's the best way to find a remote job?
Thanks for all the great advice already. Keep up the good work!
Did you use anything to supplement the React portion? I feel like I need something outside of the curriculum to get up and going on that cert!
I just tried looking for help on the FCC forum and then googling the sections if I couldn't find the answer. What really got me through a good portion of FCC was Colt Steele's Web Developer course on Udemy. It's only around $10 last I checked. Also, I just thought "If HTML and JavaScript had a baby, it would be React." My mind is funny that way. :D
Haha, that is a really funny and apt way to think of it. Thanks!
Hello and welcome
Thanks!
Hello everybody!
My first language was Java, but I am working diligently on JS right now in the hopes to become a full-time Front End Developer in 2019. I'm moving to Austin in May and want to start my new career then!
I am here to learn from and interact with awesome people in the community!
Hi 👋,
My name is Milo, am an architect, who got sick of doing architecture, and decided to return to my first passion, coding and design, and am currently learning js and react. I'm originally from Serbia, but I lived for a long time in Milano, and am now based in Berlin :)
Hey Milo! Nice to meet you.
Serbia looks good, what city are you from?
I was in Berlin 13 years ago, it was good but I don't really like for living there I think. How's the life there?
Hey guys. I found this site through people talking about it on Twitter. My first language was Java in college. I'm currently mostly working in Lua for a WoW add-on and C# for a few other personal projects relating to game development. I'm not sure what my next language will be but most likely learning more about C++. I've learned the basics but get discouraged when I get to things that don't quite make sense to me.
Hello there. I was introduced to this site by a friendly WebDev who gives me advice sometimes. I'm currently studying HTML/CSS/JS, did some courses in person and will begin watching online ones to carry on with the learning. I pretend to work on the Back-End too someday, maybe with PHP, but right now I got my hands full.
Hope to have a good time here and not be a pain in the ass.
Hi everyone! Kai here :)
My first language is C, I learned it back in uni, but I'm a parseltongue these days. I've been using this wonderful language(Python) for more than 10 years and I love it deeply.
I was browsing through my RSS items and bump into an article and realised that this is the 3rd time that I've visited dev.to today, so here I am. :D
Hello!
I am from Turkey. I started programming with c++ and still it's my best. Also I am related with mobile so xamarin - c# and android - kotlin are in my menu. I like reading code :)
I am here to follow community as much as possible.
Hello,
I am a recent bootcamp grad. I've been reading dev.to for a few months now but not participating but I will become more active. I've learned so much from this community already so I hope to be able to give back in some way!
I'm trained to be a full stack developer but I hope to build my UI/UX chops. I love making beautiful things...
Hey everybody! It feels so cozy here, like in old times :)
So, I am a software engineer from Berlin, originally came from Russia.
I like everything about IT, especially JavaScript. I could spend hours on studying something or solving puzzles.
Currently playing with Serverless, will do some brief study of Kotlin soon! But actually, my "to-learn" list is written for ages ahead:)
Cheers!
Hello!
Long time watcher first time caller! I'm a Lambda School alumnus. JavaScript was my first love, though I'm intimately aware of its faults. I've been focusing on improving my technical documentation and testing.
Recently I've been playing with Elixir and Reason to produce awesome applications.
Hello all! I'm Mike, new to the development world, but eager and very excited to learn all I can. I hope to learn from my time here, develop some friendships and maybe even teach someone else something new in return.
Hi. I began programming almost a year ago and recently completed a programming bootcamp and General Assembly. While I'm still very much an amateur, programming, the web, and computer science fascinate me and I'm eager to learn as much as I can (and hopefully get a great job in the process!). Most of my experience thus far has been with Javascript, but right now I'm working on learning Python. My academic background is in international studies and human rights so I'm also interested in how to secure our data and make the internet a safe, productive space for everyone.
Hey am Zainab, I have been learning HTML/CSS for a while now with video and online courses.. on and off I hope to do better this year and actually start a career with it by the end of this year and also very Intrested in python from some video tutorials I have watching
Hello! am Steve and it lovely to be here, am a UI/UX designer my new area of interest is Front-end web development(new bee) and am enjoying it because the learning seems never to end, also in need of a mentor if any one is ready to help out will be glad
Thanks
Hello! My name is Alyssa. As an early-career dev, I'm looking for opportunities to continue learning and maybe even start publishing posts (eek!). My first programming language was JavaScript. I recently accepted a job helping to build custom WordPress websites, so the next language I'm learning is php.
Hello everybody 👋
My first programming language was Pascal (am I too old? 😅).
I'm full stack developer focused in Java and TypeScript. My hobby language which I'm learning and using in my hobby projects is Rust.
I'm here to share my knowledge and to learn something new 😇
Hi all!
I started my career in 2008 as a backend Java developer, and I've been slowly migrating towards full stack ever since. I'm excited to learn more about React, Node, and Angular.
Cheers!
Josh
Hi everyone
I discovered this platform via Twitter and I've already read a lot of interesting articles here, so I thought it's about time that I become part of it.
I've been working as a software engineer for about 7 years, starting with Java and now working on NodeJS/Angular projects.
I just started to learn Kotlin in my free time and I love it from the beginning (is anybody else here also using/loving it?).
My plan is to publish some articles here on dev.to about Kotlin to get a deeper knowledge of the programming language for myself and to hopefully give something useful back to the community here.
Looking forward to exciting discussions with you guys.
Hello, World!
I just stumbled upon this site and decided to join. I am currently looking into Frontend web development although I like to mess with Backend technologies as well. The first programming language that I messed with was C++ but I haven't used it in a while so I'd consider Javascript my first well-known language.
Currently, I am learning Reactjs in hopes of finding my first web development job.
Hey all!
To introduce myself: I'm a first year MBA student at Stanford currently, coming off of a five year career in tech finance, most of which I was a venture capital investor investing in enterprise software and consumer internet companies. Prior that I graduated with a degree in Economics from Yale University.
I have always been a huge tech nerd - building desktop computers, coding up websites as a kid, and most recently self-teaching myself Python and the various machine learning / deep learning packages (Sklearn, PyTorch TensorFlow).
I am passionate about using software and machine learning to make human beings more productive in what they love doing.
To that end, while an investor I lead investments in incredible developer tooling companies like GitLab and Epic Games (known for both Fortnite and the Unreal Engine).
Look forward to interacting with all of you!
Hello!
I am Ashok Kumar from India. I am new to this community. Actually am beginner in programming language. My friend suggest me about dev. I am here to learn. I started my programming with c Language.
Hey everyone! I'm Richard, 21, freelancer by trade!
I was brought here originally by another member of wip.chat when I was launching jinx, my nginx wrapper, and I received absolutely amazing feedback on it.
I'm currently working on a few site projects and trying to take up blogging as a habit. You know, growing an audience and all that jazz.
My first real programming language was probably JavaScript. I learned it when I wanted to make cool interactive things happen on my website. My next language will most likely be Go, because I'm oddly fond of its syntax. :)
Hello,
I'm not a developer but a web marketing specialist.
I'm interested in connected topics between dev and web marketing, such as a lot a good stuff here about UX, web performance (loading times), crawling.
Hi All!
I've been lurking for a while but love what I see in the community here so decided to join. In my career I've been a dev working on control systems, hardware and lots of web. I've done a bunch of hiring and team building in the past couple of years as team lead and dev manager in but I still love coding.
I've learned loads about modern stacks, new language features and better ways of working from articles on here so happy to give back if I can.
Thanks for creating a positive place to learn!
Hello, I am a Java full stack developer, Java is also my first programming language, I am currently working on Spring, Struts2 and JPA. I am also learning Hibernate.
Happy to join you all, and looking forward to some interesting projects.
Hello my first programming is php, and now im learn node.js and step by step i want to know and get started to be MERN stack (mongodb,express.js,react,node js) i think best part moment when i see some errors and try to fix it .
Hey 👋
I'm Nicolas, web developer in a start-up called Busbud, living & working in Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦
Mainly doing JavaScript front & back, but playing with Elixir & Elm from time to time and tried different others in the past (PHP, Ruby, Python and a bit of Java). I'm really into "how to build maintainable software" subjects (aka Software Craftsmanship) and always curious to learn more about functional programming, reactive programming and the like.
I regularly came here to read interesting articles on software development. I also use to blog on my personal website and re-publish the articles on Medium to connect with a broader community. But I'm tired of the writing experience of tech articles on Medium, so I decided to give Dev.to a shot… And wow! Markdown, code highlighting… That's what I was looking for – thank you!
My first programming language was actually plain HTML/CSS with sprinkles of JS/jQuery – yup, essentially front-end integration. The next one would probably be Elixir, but I'm happy with JS/TS too 😄
Hi everyone,
I registered here after reading a post from a member (Danny Dore) who was suggesting resources on learning programming for free.
The first language I was introduced to was C#, which is very demanding syntax-wise... I am very interested in front end development and have started freecodeCamp a while ago...
I would like some suggestions on how to prepare for an internship interview, as I feel soo "not ready" even almost graduating from a technical level study in computer programming.
I have learned .NET, PHP, C#, HTML CSS, Java, Android development, SQL... Yet I feel myself not knowledgeable enough to brag about any... Would that be a normal beginners' feeling?
Hope to have some insight from most experienced programmers here.
Hi!
I want to be a react developer. Start to learn React + Redux using YouTube & building
training project (github.com/kurakste/giftcardstore.git) .
I fill like i need somebody who help me with code style & best practices.
If your can help me i will be thankful. If i can help community some way i'm ready too.
Hello,
I am a embedded systems programmer and spent quite a bit of time in silicon validation, Linux device driver development and computer architecture simulation. My understanding about algorithms and data structures is not beyond linear data structures. In 2019, I want to dedicate time in learning algorithms and Python.
Prathap
Hi everyone!
I've been coding for about 10 years now, mostly in JavaScript (mostly with React), Swift, and Objective-C.
Recently I've been learning all about Docker, Kubernetes, and Microservices and I'm moving into a new role as a software engineering manager (which at my company still involves a lot of writing code).
Hey! Ever been through that phase where you want to learn everything and there is so much you want to do but you're terrible at planning and eventually end up not doing anything.
Bit of a negative introduction, I know. But wth.
I'm Arvind and I want to know a lot of stuff. But first, I want to become proficient in Web Development.
YOLO.
Hello, My first programming language was PHP, then when I started I don't have much knowledge on programming and I decided to try PHP because It the only option I had back then.
I am currently learning Ruby and I hope I gat friends here on dev.to who're Ruby Dev.
Hi I am Dylan,
I am a JS guy, Yes I do enjoy using all the popular frameworks
I love interacting with developers and learning more everyday
My first programming language was C#, I used to do game dev with Unity.
I hope it'll be fun talking to you.
Hey. I'm Roman.
I do have one old project written on JS with processing.js.
These days I mostly use NodeJS + ReactJS, so I'm curious if it is possible to easy launch my old project on Android with React Native and found nice post with example of it.
Thanks to @kmukabe
Hello Everyone! My name is John. My first programing language was pascal way back in the past, now i am learning full stack javascript development on treehouse beside my daily job. I am hoping to land a new job on front end in the near future.
Hello, my name is Omolewa Stephen. I am a web developer currently using php and node js to build web apps. I would love to go into mobile app development by learn react and react native, what are the best resources to learn with.
Hi everybody!
my name is Victor. I just stumbled upon this site and decided to join. My first Programming Language was HTML. I am currently looking into Backend web development although I like to mess with Frontend technologies as well.
I have been developing using the Procedural method of programming as that was how I learnt in college.
Currently, I am learning Vuejs and Laravel in hopes of building my first web development project with the Object Oriented methodology.
Hello everyone! My name is Eric and I'm an Industrial Robot Programmer by trade transitioning into software/web development.
My first programming languages were robot related (similar but different) called RAPID and VAL+ and also Modicon and Rockwell PLC ladder logic.
My first web development experience (other than HTML/css) is with Ruby and Rails and I'm a graduate of the former Firehose Project.
Looking forward to switching careers soon and learning another software system and language! Glad to have DEV as a resource to learn and grow with!
Hello everyone! My name is Ippei. My first programming language was C but I'm using python currently because I'm working as a R&D engineer and developing new product with deep learning.
I'm not only interested in machine learning but also in many kinds of things in IT territory.
I hope to learn a lot from and interact with people in DEV!
Hello, I am a Java developer, Java is also my first programming language. I am currently working on Spring, Struts and JPA. I am also learning Hibernate. Looking forward to work on some interesting projects.
Hi, there!
I am an iOS developer but, fun fact: most of the time I use Emacs (Spacemacs) to do development work. :P
I love how easy it is to work with multiple projects and languages within the same editor, how easy it is to do git with magit, how everything is so discoverable, how I can use VIM keybindings and have all the helpful plugins in one editor. I guess that's why people would say "Emacs is an operating system."
Hey, all! I've been in web development and software engineering for about 12 years, but I just recently decided to join here as I've been tinkering with some IoT projects at home.
My first programming language was actually TI-BASIC for the TI99 system back when I was a kid. I have evolved quite a bit, and I currently write JavaScript for all the things here at Disney: from serverless infrastructure solutions to render platforms to front-end web applications.
I don't really have a "next" on my radar yet, because there are so many aspects of JavaScript I still don't know after all these years!
Hi there,
My first programming language was python... at first I thought I could not understand anything, but then things starting making sense and that's when I knew that I wanted to be a web developer; so I began learning html, css and javascript... I completed Udacity's front-end web developer nanodegree (as well as their introduction to programming nanodegre as well) and did many of their other curses, which I found very enlightening.
I want to fully become a front end web developer, and I'll begin applying to jobs this year.
I am now starting to learn react which is looks like it's going to be a fun ride! :D!!
howdy, i don't usually do these things but thought i'd give it a try. my first programming language was perl and c. i think i started writing programs in 2004 or 2005. anyway, i read dev.to articles from time to time and i find them interesting. annnnd that about wraps it up. have a good day!
Hello everybody
My first language was Java, I am working on Microservices , apache camel right now playing a role of integration Developer.
I am here to learn from and interact with awesome people in the community!
I have a specific vision for how I see WebAssembly disrupting software development across the board. I've been spending countless hours in my personal time to work towards this end, myself. I'm very excited to see how we will solve very cool problems with a unified platform. With WebAssembly, WebGL/WebGPU, WebSockets/WebRTC, the web has evolved way past a simple document sharing platform, and WASM is a huge step towards a true application platform.
Anyways, I'm excited about it, and I'm just looking for ways to constantly be learning more about it, and perhaps even share some of my own experiences.
Hello everyone! I am Syed Kaleem from India. I am a Back-end web developer. I deal with Java and MySQL.
I stated coding way back in 2005(I was 10 years old) and QBASIC was my first language(I am guilty of using GOTO statements).
I then moved over to C and stayed there till I got a job as a web developer. My greatest regret is not moving beyond the algorithms and logical problems in C, had I known C was used to write most of the software we use, I would have taken a very different approach to coding. Not just as a tool to solve maths.
Fully aware of my past mistakes, I am now learning Rust. My aim is to build tools and document them and may be, if they are good enough, share here.
Hello, I have good experience in Front-end development but I am not a good developer. I have worked more than hundred websites and applications. But it was basically a maintenance work and sewing the holes, not real programming.
So, I want to learn real programming, first I want to make myself well handled in OOJS. Then Angular and React.
Please help me out with more helpful feeds.
Thanks in Advance to everyone in the forum.
Hello, I'm retroIT lover/hobbyist and system administrator. I love C, Forth and COBOL. Using OpenBSD at home and linux at work. Also trying to hobby some gamedev! Feel free to msg me!
PS my 1st language was BASIC on soviet spectrum clone, but really 1st and used - Turbo Pascal! Borland4life!
Hi all,
Just started Coding with Python. It was very hard for the first few days. Many things were new, unknown but doing it is also of Fun.
I am here to learn more and innovate new thing with such great members in the community.
Cheers,
Suraj
Hi! My first programming language was JavaScript and then I moved to C#, so I got to experience the difference between dynamic and typed languages right away. I'm hoping to go more in-depth with .NET Core this year as I am mostly a Linux user at home and love that its cross-platform. I'm also learning more advanced vanilla JavaScript.
I heard about Dev.To on the Coding Blocks podcast and I'm glad to be here. Hoping to learn a lot from the community and contribute some knowledge.
Hello~ I'm currently a student at community college and happen to discover this place not too long ago. I am currently learning web dev & I look forward to showcasing my creativity to the world! I haven't been enjoying learning back dev lately, so maybe I can rekindle my passion to learn by checking out more posts on here :)
Hi 👋
My first programming language was C in Borland C++ 3.1, although I'm not that old 👴haha
Today I'm happily freelancing with Ruby/JS, testing grounds with Go, Elixir and Clojure, and looking into wasm with C++.
Henlo people,
I work as UI designer at Indonesia based startup company before i go full freelance UI/UX designer.
You know that phase in life where you wanna upgrade yourself? I'm in that phase now.
Taking some web development course here and there because i feel the web development is so exciting and frustrating with the logic at the same time.
Hope we can co-learning and co-helping. Thanks!
P.S. sorry for the grammar error.
Hello, there!
I am an iOS developer who, surprisingly (to others), uses Emacs (Spacemacs) almost all the time for development, switching between projects, doing git. What amazes me about Emacs/Spacemacs is how easy it is to add a piece of functionality and how discoverable everything is (you can check out the source code of Emacs's built in functions easily)!
Anyway, hope you have a good day. Ciao!
Hey everyone! I came here to meet other developers and share ideas. I'm currently learning about interpreters, and Python was my first language. I got into programming thanks to automatetheboringstuff.com/. Python is still my go-to language, but I'm hoping to replace it with something that is as pragmatic and expressive while also being safer. Candidates include Haskell, Kotlin and Rust. See you around!
Hello everyone!
I have been reading articles on here for quite some time and i really love how friendly and welcoming the community seems to be, so i decided to sign up!
I am from South Africa and started out as a C# developer, something which i stay far away from these days. For the last few years i have been working as a Full Stack Web Developer with PHP being my main language and Bulma being my go to CSS framework. Over the last few years i have been a WordPress developer building a variety of custom themes and plugins and in the last year or so i have added Laravel to my skill set. I am currently starting to dive into React. Can anyone recommend any great tutorials? I built a basic SPA in React but i am struggling with the SEO aspect of it.
Howdy. I started developing apps in 1996 and I've been doing it ever since. These days I work full time remote and spend a lot of my time managing projects, dev teams, designing architecture, etc. At the moment I'm working mostly with C#/Javascript/Typescript/Angular/React.
I've spent a lot of my career working fairly independently, which has suited me as someone who's never been particularly outgoing. However, I feel like I should always be looking to improve myself in a variety of ways. So I'm focusing more on meeting, working with, helping and learning from other people.
Some (possibly) interesting personal notes: I'm an American expat living in England (for nearly 14 years now). I'm working on a new podcast about building software. I'm also a hobbyist photographer and love spending my time taking pictures of things I find beautiful while hiking/biking/running.
Now I've rambled on a lot, so I'll leave some room for others!

Hello!
I started programming at 7 and still love it at 32. My first language was Motorola 68k assembly followed by Amiga E and Pascal. I've been using Linux for 16 years. I'm experienced in C, C++, Python, and Ruby and have worked on distributed file systems, databases, networking infrastructure, desktop and web apps. I also have an MSc in maths.
I'd like to focus on learning three things:
I'm happy to be part of this community.
Greg
Hello everyone, I started to program in Python and it really captivated me, then I played with some web like HTML, CSS and JS. But what attracted me was mobile development, I started to learn Java and I studied all the basics, then I saw Google's Flutter and decided it's enough Java, I now use Dart as my main language and I hope to make awesome mobile app. Thanks for having me!
Hello! I joined this community hoping to learn something. I am retired but still active as an artist (sculptor) and making websites. As an architect I started using the computer in the seventies, last century, and I am still fascinated. My first programming language was Basic, followed by Assembler, C, C++ and C#. I developed a library of construction concepts for the construction industry, the prototype is on the site constructionconcepts.nl. Now I am making websites, and I try to explore all of HTML, CSS and Javascript.
Hey guys, my name is Thomas Yao, I started hacking when I was 9. Used to be a manager of community Shanghai Linux User Group(which has over 20 years history by now), and founded the first git service in China called GitCafe. Glad to be here and meet new geeks around the globe.
Hello everyone! I'm Manuel, and my first programming language was Java. I'm not working with Java everyday, but sometimes it's helpful for my job.
Mostly, I work with HTML, CSS and Javascript or jQuery.
Now, I'm studying Node.js, and after that, I want to start with Angular or React, which one is better?
Hope you had a great weekend! :)
Hi,
My first programming language was C++ at college, then I started web development with PHP, ASP and finally, I moved to .NET with VB first and C# which I love now.
I also enjoy working with JavaScript and all the front end frameworks and libraries.
Hello there! Glad to join the community :)
My first programming language was objective-c that I learned to build native apps for iOS in the early '10s, then moved gradually to web technologies and almost exclusively JS.
The next language I'd like to tackle is typescript, been on my radar for a while but I'm ready to get my hands dirty this year!
Hi I'm a government software engineer trying to keep my coding skills relevant in an age where technology is changing at an ever quickening pace.
I started learning to code in 1985 while attending college, using a main frame (HP2000) coding in COBOL and FORTRAN. I finally graduated college after a long hiatus in 2006. I have worked in both the hardware (electronics) as well as the software realms of computing. I am sort of a “jack-of-all-trades”.
Welcome welcome welcome!
If you're not sure what your first post should be, maybe you could consider posting in this tag:
